L'Atelier De Perth is a small design studio based in Perth, Western Australia. In this studio handmade creations such as hand knitted, hand crocheted and hand sewn items come to life.
I can remember watching my mother at a very young age knitting us kids vests, jumpers, and other lovely warm garments. As I watched in awe, I asked my dad to make some knitting needles. As a man who could make anything out of nothing, he came in from his workshop with a lovely pair of brass rod knitting needles which he had shaved to a pointed end (not that sharp, but just right), and had soldered a brass nut fitting to the other end so my stitches would not come off. Thinking back, they would have been a size 3.25mm! I knitted lots of scarfs for my dolls, and other bits and pieces, as these needles my Dad made for me were the "bees knees". So this was the beginning of my love that has carried across 45 plus years!
All my designs are original, and each start out with a ball of yarn. I then think about what it would be best knitted up as. I may take my ideas from nature, or anything I am inspired by at that initial time of picking up the yarn and needles.
I mainly work with natural fibres like wool, alpaca, bamboo fibres, cotton, silk and other natural and manmade fibres for my handknitted/crocheted items. But I also love to work with gorgeous fabrics for my wedding accessory lines.
All items are knitted, crocheted or sewn without patterns as I was blessed with a keen eye for design as well as drafting and patternmaking from a very early age.
So whether it is handknitted winter woolies, wedding accessories, home decor items, clothing or anything in between I can either knit it, crochet it or sew it!
The majority of my items are OOAK (one of a kind) with the use of vintage buttons, vintage laces, ribbons, and other embellishments.
Some of my items can be found in store at Stitch n Sew, Berkshire Road, Forrestfield, WA 5068
